  In movies and TV shows, swords are typically used in close-contact combat. They range from one-handed weapons wielded with just one hand to staged combat where actors duel with two hands. Tied to the sword is a long blade that tapers to a point at its end. The blade is usually sharpened on both sides or just one side of the blade and can have a spine (backbone).
